In May 2014, the Jean Hailes team returned from a visit Alice Springs in the beautiful Northern Territory to present women’s health events to local women and health professionals.
The National Council of Women of Australia (NCWA) who was holding their bi-annual conference in Alice Springs, invited Jean Hailes to present a health forum for local women. Reaching women in rural and remote locations is a passion of Jean Hailes so we were very keen to jump on board.
The Healthy Women= Health Lives event covered the topics of: Food as medicine – a naturopath’s perspective; health checks and a range of important topics such as menopause, continence, libido & sexual health. The need for good health information was clearly demonstrated with almost 300 Alice Springs women registering to attend the event, which was a great success.
Jean Hailes also partnered with the Northern Territory Medicare Local to present a women’s health update for 40 Alice Springs GPs and health professionals. The Jean Hailes team was also lucky enough to visit Alukura – the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress women’s health service to present a workshop on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome which affects a large number of Aboriginal women.
By building on the relationships Jean Hailes has with health professionals across the country we were able to organise and promote these Alice Springs events and reach new audiences in outback Australia. We are very grateful to the NCWA for their invitation to join them in Alice Springs and for the enthusiasm of the fabulous Alice Springs people and organisations that supported and promoted the Jean Hailes visit to their community.
